First Teacher Creates Customized Curriculum for Parents

Community Action Agency of Southern New Mexico, Las Cruces Public Schools Head
Start, Doña Ana County Head Start, La Clinica de Familia Healthy Start and Early Head
Start, and the Children’s Reading Alliance receive funds to create a curriculum for the
First Teacher Program that is tailored to reach the bilingual community and teach 300
parents and reach 600 children over the span of a two-years. Through the program,
parents receive school readiness skills for their children. The program instills the value of
the role as the parent as their child’s first teacher.
