Early Child Development in Our Nation: A Free Documentary Screening
On Friday, May 26 at 6pm the Rio Grande Theatre, the SUCCESS Partnership, Ngage New Mexico, The Community Action Agency, and the Doña Ana Arts Council, are hosting a free documentary screening of “The Raising of America: Early Childhood and the Future of Our Nation”. The film paints a picture of how American economic policies and circumstances impact access to early childhood education, along with the parental perspective of quality childcare affordability. This documentary is the first episode in a five-part series focusing on early childhood.
In the midst of graduation cap tassels being proudly shifted from right to the left, ceremonies commencement and the festive graduation celebrations, graduates can be thankful for the plethora of supporters. Primarily, their parents. What parents may not know — their decision to provide education for their child’s early learning, was a major factor leading to the graduation stage.
A child is 29% more likely to graduate from high school than a child who is not enrolled in a quality preschool. A child is also more likely to enroll in higher education. Prominent research recognizes that early childhood experiences shape the brain. 700 new neural connections are formed every second during a child’s first years of life.
Local, head turning statistics strike a chord at home— in Doña Ana County, only 3,603 three and four years old children out of a total of 6,370 participated in government organized and supported pre-school programs in 2014-2015.
The educational initiative, known as the SUCCESS Partnership is working to build public awareness and close the educational gap, so parents can provide a strong educational foundation for their children from the child’s prenatal development to their first step into the kindergarten classroom.
The SUCCESS Partnership is an education initiative supported by the non-profit organization, Ngage New Mexico. The SUCCESS Partnership is comprised of multiple subgroups in the community. A conglomerate effort of business leaders, partners, and education professionals are fully-integrated to improve education in Doña Ana County.
Philanthropists, parents, business leaders and the community will join the SUCCESS Partnership and hosts for an informative screening and stirring discussion. Free refreshments will be provided at the event and donations for the non-profit will be appreciated. To RSVP for the event or for more information, you may email firstname.lastname@example.org.
